Dear Volfredo,
I saw this article in the Spanish magazine «Hola!» and was most impressed by the beauty of these swinging dresses of the ladies in red. How lovely they all look. I Iove the hats as well. Such a beautiful combination!
And now I see and read your text, posted in Cuba. You certainly have an eye for beauty.
By the way, your last name of «Assef», is that native of the Middle East? Does your family stem from Syria, Lebanon, or Jordan? I read somewhere, that in the 19th and 20th century many oriental families emigrated to Cuba. Is your family one of those? Please excuse my question. Your name aroused my curiosity.

Dear Olivia: The crimson red color is the most trending color in the current year 2023, both in fashion and in design in general, including architectural design.
I am a strange mix of immigrants. My paternal great-grandparents came to Cuba from Spain at the end of the 19th century and my maternal grandparents were Catholic who immigrated to Cuba from Lebanon at the beginning of the 20th century. In fact, my deceased mother, rest in peace, had both, Cuban and Lebanese nationality.
I am a doctor in Medical Sciences, now I am 69 years old, retired and I dedicate myself to reading and writing. I don’t like to talk about politics. I do not actively practice any religion, although I read the Bible daily and believe that God is the only savior and the reason for human existence.
In my opinion: Art is the reason that makes biological beings human.
This is my phone, you can find me on WhatsApp and Telegram, the latter is very secure. Area code 53 (Cuba), mobile phone 54649081.
I ask God to bless your day and fill all your acts and actions with love.

Your mother was Cuban-Lebanese, ah, I thought so. When I read your last name, «Assef», I immediately thought that you might be of Lebanese origin.
The French-Lebanese writer Amin Maalouf writes in one of his autobiographical novels that his uncle (or grand-uncle) emigrated to Cuba and lived in Havana with his family.
Amin Maalouf himself was born in Beyrouth, grew up in Egypt and lives in France now. He writes that many Lebanese people emigrated to Cuba, in the past centuries. Why exactly to Cuba I do not know but I understand why they left Lebanon. Too much political upheaval there, and constant threats of wars ….
Do you like living in La Havana? Are you happy there?

It is as you say, Arab emigration to Cuba at the beginning of the 20th century was significant and was made up mainly of Lebanese and Palestinians.
My grandparents lived in Ciego de Ávila, a small city that was very prosperous when they arrived and today is practically in ruins due to the disastrous economic situation in which Cuba lives.
Currently, Cubans emigrate abroad en masse; last year the figure exceeded a quarter of a million, which is equivalent to 13 percent of our young population.
I cannot emigrate, 69 years is not the age to start a new life, so I am resigned to living and dying alone in this aging country that everyone abandons.
Happy and blessed afternoon.

Yes, Cuba was a prosperous and rich country at that time, it was very easy to grow and make capital, and its inhabitants were happy and prosperous. During the first decades of the 20th century, Cuba received sustained emigration from many countries, including Europe.
